Gold vs Silver Jewellery
Two metals, two very different ownership experiences. Here is the honest comparison.
Durability
Gold does not tarnish and, at 9ct and 14ct, resists scratching well. Sterling silver is softer and tarnishes, though tarnish is entirely reversible.
Cost
Silver is dramatically cheaper by weight, which means silver buys scale — a bolder piece for the same budget. Gold buys permanence.
Skin tone
Warm and olive undertones tend to glow in yellow gold; cool and pink undertones often prefer silver. That said, personal preference beats colour theory every time.
Maintenance
Gold needs occasional cleaning. Silver needs occasional polishing. Neither is demanding, but silver requires slightly more attention.
Which to buy first
Buy the metal you will actually wear daily. If you are unsure, silver is the lower-risk way to discover your preference before committing to gold.
