What is the difference between demi-fine and fine jewellery?

Fine jewellery is solid precious metal throughout. Demi-fine uses a precious metal base such as sterling silver with a thick layer of solid gold on top.

Does gold vermeil tarnish?

Vermeil can dull over time with heavy exposure to water, perfume and friction, but a soft polishing cloth restores it. It does not turn skin green.

Is demi-fine jewellery hypoallergenic?

Our vermeil is nickel-free and suitable for most sensitive skin, as the base metal is sterling silver rather than brass.

Demi-fine explained

Demi-fine sits between costume and fine jewellery. Ours is 18ct gold vermeil — a thick 2.5 micron layer of solid gold over recycled sterling silver — or solid recycled sterling silver. Unlike gold plating, vermeil has a legally defined minimum thickness and a precious metal base.

How long demi-fine lasts

With reasonable care, our vermeil holds its finish for years rather than months. Remove pieces before swimming, apply perfume first and store dry, and the gold layer stays rich and even.

Building a collection affordably

Demi-fine lets you experiment with proportion and stacking before committing to solid gold. Many customers build a full demi-fine wardrobe, then upgrade the two or three pieces they wear daily to fine.
