Choosing the Perfect Ring
Rings are the hardest piece to buy and the easiest to get wrong. This guide fixes that.
Measuring your size accurately
Measure at the end of the day, at room temperature, three times. Fingers swell in heat and after exercise. Size for the knuckle, then check the band does not spin at the base.
Band width changes fit
A wide band feels tighter than a narrow one at the same size. For anything above 5mm, go up a half size.
Choosing metal for a ring
Rings take the most abuse of any jewellery. 9ct and 14ct gold are the most scratch resistant; 18ct and silver mark more easily but repolish beautifully.
Settings and daily life
Bezel settings protect stones fully and never catch on clothing. Claw settings show more of the stone but need occasional checking.
Building a stack
Odd numbers, one wider anchor band, and no more than one stone-set piece per finger. Keep the metal consistent within a single finger.
